William O. (BIll) Beaton

 

Bill's PictureBill was born in Seattle Washington on May 15, 1923. He comes from a Canadian and British heritage which was interrupted by the loss of his grandfather in WW1 and the remarriage of his grandmother to a US citizen. Bill's "growing up" years were spent around Seattle and Bainbridge Island Washington. With the exception of two years high school in San Francisco, California; he graduated from Bainbridge High school in 1941. Shortly after graduation Bill joined the US Army Air Corps as an Aviation Cadet. In April 1943, Bill won his wings and a commission as a 2nd Lt. at the age of 19. Bill was married to his childhood sweetheart the same month.
Following the war, while still raising a family, Bill attended the University of Washington. Bill earned a Mechanical Engineer Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Machine design. After graduation Bill joined a major international forest company in the pulp and paper division as a draftsman in the engineering department. Shortly after joining the company Bill was transferred to production work. Bill experienced numerous job changes and company transfers as he rose through the ranks to management status.
In 1964 the company transferred him again, this time to Canada. Bill was now managing the lumber and plywood side of the business. After many more transfers Bill was promoted to a Vice President in the Vancouver Office. Bill retired in 1978 as Wood Group Vice President with the responsibility for Forestry, Logging, Lumber and plywood production and sales of all wood products.
Bill's wife, the mother of their three children, passed away in 1967 after 24 years of a wonderful marriage. After time Bill remarried a Canadian lady to whom he is devoted. Bill and his wife reside in the beautiful small town of Gibsons located on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia.
Bill is an active participant in the very diverse arts community on the Coast. While living on the Sunshine Coast Bill went from dabbling in Tole painting to becoming an accomplished Acrylic painter. He devotes his art to creating the beauty around him, mainly in Landscapes and Seascapes. Bill is always looking to learn more about his passion, the art community on the Coast helps fill that need.
